Changing Perspective
Painting Objectively.
I’ve been known for creating with my heart on my brush, and pouring my soul out onto the page and canvas. But just because I am a sensitive person, doesn’t mean that needs to dominate my practice. Instead, maybe I can use elements that evoke emotive states instead of focusing on subjects and symbols that hold significance in my mind.
I’m thinking a lot about light, color and atmosphere and how that creates a mood and trying to think the same way as someone working a film set. Narrating with atmosphere? Is that a thing?
Using the figure for emotional context. Lightscapes and how they can alter mood. Slightly odd but familiar. Not a record of everyday life, instead letting a painting exist in it’s own space.
Playful and contrived - my own visual poems. By working in the studio from still life and studies, I can investigate light, form and the different possibilities that go into building a painting.
