Nostalgia entering the picture
I like looking back at little moments, and also documenting my now because one day soon, I’ll be reminiscing about this moment too.
Other than the obnoxious cat sculpture I just made during an animal imagery coil building workshop with Adrian Arleo, all the paintings I’ve made this week are my life, spaces I’ve spent time in, and little forms I’m interacting with. I guess even the cat too :) He has Toby’s form.
I’ve included captions that highlight what I was thinking with each study.
Clothes Line
A painting of another time. I composed this photo with my mom’s old 35mm camera and developed the image by hand. I was interested in how it could exist in paint.
Value study of Averi on the Porch
I snapped quite a few photos of Averi reading on the porch. I love the shape her body is making on the swing as well as how the windows and columns are breaking apart the space.. And the bright warm background and cool shadows under the porch.
Hummingbird Feeder
I had so much trouble painting ketchup last week that I’ve been itching to paint another red form, plus I had fun painting blurry hummingbird wings.
Copper Cup & Plant
Just because it’s shiny, and I just added several new plants in copper cups to my kitchen window.
Camping Tent
Another play with space - looking at subjects that show interior and exterior spaces.
Color Study of Averi on the Porch
Piecing together color shapes and still thinking about breaking apart spaces on the surface of the canvas.
Coil Built Cat
Practicing coil building clay with this seated cat figure. Next step will be crafting the surface texture and fingers crossed that it doesn’t blow up in the kiln!
