Spring Art Challenge - A shift in intentions…
It’s April 21 - We are a month into spring, and I am 33 days into my self inflicted spring art challenge. I began this journey with the intention of creating a daily ritual around my art practice and to build up a visual vocabulary that truly felt like me.
What I’m noticing is that while I really love the outcome created by dreaming up visuals, sourcing out imagery and bringing that to life - I don’t like the process of making art that is solely based out of my head and online/magazine searches. It feels disconnected, and goes against how I actually like to live in the world - which is away from the screens!
Sculpture is beginning to fill that desire to create symbols and metaphors, but in painting, I’m way more excited about shapes, spaces, and looking. With each material language, somehow weaving in little fossils of my experience whether that is the spaces I inhabit or examining the structure and purpose of other lifeforms.
