Give Your Ideas Room to Grow
It all begins with an idea.
I'm dropping the curtains and sharing how I like to start a project. I hope it helps give voice to your own ingenious thoughts!
The best part about the creative phase to me is always the beginning! It's when your ideas are flowing and the project is full of potential. So how do you take all that inspiration and funnel it into a painting, design, sculpture, or whatever it is you do?
One option that I've always loved is giving all your ideas room to grow. Let them be big and take up space! Even if it's just a tiny whisper of an idea. Giving it space means acknowledging its presence and value, and that it deserves to grow into something more.
Armed with my field drawings, color studies, and photographs, and a roll of kraft paper, I began this week sketching out the ideas from my recent adventures that I felt deserved a chance to be bigger.
This image shows a couple of walls in my studio, but seriously guys - the whole room looks like a sketchbook - there's no wall space left, which means it's time for painting.
Stay tuned for phase 3 when these drawings take shape and come to life with color!
